Fatman
I'm switching health insurance plans while in school to save money. University Health Services offers a limited amount of coverage for illness, etc. but I need further coverage for any real medical treatment. My thought is to essentially view this as catastrophe insurance in case my appendix bursts or something of the like. Other than a broken arm when I was a kid, I haven't had any serious medical treatment. I'm 29 and had a physical last year where my doctor told me to keep doing what I'm doing, nothing to indicate any problems. I'm considering a Humana plan that's $50/mo with a $5200 deductible, 0% coinsurance (meaning I don't pay anything past the deductible) and a yearly out of pocket cap of $5200. Lifetime coverage of $2MM. I'll only have this insurance for the next year and a half when I'll presumably be covered when I re-join the workforce. Any thing else I should consider here? wirehairman
In your situation, I would seriously recommend looking into a plan with a Health Savings Account (HSA) in combination with a high deductable plan like you are describing.
