Ursa Majoris
stopping and thinking about what? and you said it, mathematicians running the show, not computers.......... Mathematicians and computers are inseparable in this context. You are therefore making my point.

bpwallace49
people have to program the computers. put in the parameters and levels of where to trade. the computers make decisions based on the inputs. Is it strictly about math then? Asking you as a trader . . or are there other indicators that require more thought than simply "if stock A gets to 50 bucks a share then sell and buy stock B if the price is 25"? So all traders are basically useless and can be replaced by computers that are programmed by mathematicans? Please elaborate . . .

Please elaborate . . . it depends on the firm and their strategy. hf firms are strictly trading with computers. other prop/trading firms use valuations, others tech. some use all of them. at the hf firms, traders arent needed. the firms have quant guys writing programs all day. due to the economy and 08 debacle, alot of liquidity is gone from the market. people arent in the game.
