CaP'N GRuNGe
POSTED 12:01 p.m. EST, January 3, 2008 FORMER DOLPHINS ASSISTANT BUSTED ON CHRISTMAS With Fins new football poobah Bill Parcells eyeballing the then-current coaching staff as the regular season was rolling to a conclusion, it would have been wise for the staff to be on its best behavior. And as we're all now learning that didn't happen. Secondary assistant Mike Dumas, a former standout NFL defensive player, was arrested on Christmas day for simple battery against his 19-year-old stepson. Dumas allegedly grabbed his stepson around the neck with both hands, and pushed him onto the hood of a car. The fight continued inside the Dumas residence, with the stepson wielding a knife and scissors for self-defense and Dumas grabbing the boys arms, forcing him to drop them. It is the third arrest for Dumas in Florida since 2002. Though the incident surely wasn't the key factor in Parcells' decision to clean house, it likely provided some objective justification for the moves that the franchise made on Thursday. Finally, under the revised rules of Turd Watch and the arrest counter, the fact that the incident wasn't disclosed for more than a week results in a re-setting of the meter to zero.
