  1. Does anyone have any news on Bironas for this week? Is there any danger that he won't play this weekend? It is difficult to get timely news on kickers, but I haven't heard that Tennessee has signed another kicker. This is a key game for me this weekend to get into the playoffs. I can only make one more waiver pick up for the season and dropping any of the players on my roster will make it difficult in later weeks in case of injury. In other words, I don't want to pick up another kicker unless I absolutely have to.
  2. Ropeman & Big Country...thanks for your thoughts here. To answer your questions... We have 5 keepers on an 18 player roster with 9 starters. We have no limiting of number of draft picks that can be traded or which picks can be traded. The veto rule is that the Commish(s) must deem the trade to be collusion to overturn it. The fact is that owners are trading current value for future value so the trades can't be veto'd with our current set of rules. We have also moved to a lottery system for next season's draft order as you have suggested Big Country. Tanking gives the last place team the worst chance at the first pick (out of the bottom four teams). But still, we had teams dump players already this year. Maybe simply stating that during the season trades must be for present value or perhaps make it worse odds for the team that finishes last in the ToiletBowl. I'm really curious if most other leagues allow to trade present value for future value during the regular season. Thanks again for the input!
  3. Looking for ideas on rules that other leagues have for trading draft picks in a keeper league. Do you allow such a thing? How do you prevent teams from dumping this year to gain a bunch of picks for next year? It's that time of the season again where 1-3 teams find themselves out of contention and inevitably drop many of their players. We are finding that this greatly affects the balance of the league. For one, the team doing the dumping is no longer competitive and if this team is on your schedule after the dumping, it is an easier win. Two, the team(s) buying players are now much improved. We just had a situation where a player traded two keepers and one marginal keeper to a single team. Huge balance shift to that one team. The easy solution to this is to stop allowing draft pick trading, but I'm looking for something more creative. Anyone have any unique rules that they'd like to share that prevents teams from dumping? Thanks!
  4. Yep, heard them both. There's no way that it came from outside the booth. The way I look at it is that the broadcast couldn't get worse. They must have realized that they wouldn't be doing this again next year and did somethig "crazy" on air. I was quite amazed how Collingsworth didn't miss a beat when Gumble burped. At least that was something positive for the broadcast...
  5. My main league has been running for close to 10 years now with part of that being a keeper league. In this league we allow the trading of draft picks in the next year's draft in order to allow the weaker teams to sell of marginal players and get some assistance in future years to improve their team. Generally the stronger teams buy players at the end of the year and the weaker teams sell off. This is reasonable to start with, but...over time this seems to have degraded trading in our league. The fact is that we have all learned that the earlier that we sell our team off, the better chance we have of getting good draft picks for next year. We are contemplating making changes. Understand that this is a generally happy group of friends that have played together for years. We are not having any major satisfaction issues here. A few are thinking that the league could be more equitable to all and allow the teams that are strong team managers and drafters to win. I would really appreciate hearing your opinions on how your league handles the trading of draft picks. How many leagues do this? Does it work for your league? We are also contemplating shifting away from being a keeper to a complete redraft league. This gives everyone the same chance to win every year (assuming that all are simliar in fantasy football abilities). Let me hear your thoughts...please.
  6. We have been running our league for many years and have the following starting lineups: 1QB, 2RB, 2WR, 1RB/WR, 1TE, 1K, 1Def. It is also a 12 team league. What we found in the past is that the flex position was generally a RB and that position was very depleted. Three years ago, based on info from the Huddle, we changed to allow reception points for our WR and TE's only. This evened up the 3rd RB or 3rd WR on teams and made it a more even mix. Now, the past two years, the NFL appears to be moving more toward a RBBC approach across the board. This does two things, bring overall RB production down, but adds more choices for a 3rd or 4th RB on your roster. What it did in our league is make the flex position change to a mostly WR focused position. We even drop the receptions to a half point this year with the same result. But...the fact is that having that flex position gives us more guys to cheer for and the flexibility to make it a RB if we happened to be deep there or a WR AND help with bye weeks. I personally like this setup. The key is making the scoring system well enough balanced that the 25th-36th RB's and WR's in the league are fairly equal. As for roster size, we have two roster spots per starting spot. That gives us 18 roster spots. We find that most starting and backup RB's are on rosters somewhere. There are still gems to be found at times though. Hope this helps...
  7. The only thing I really wouldn't miss is the announcers. I agree with most here that they are dreadful. Luckily, I digitally record the games and can skip most of the blabbering. Couldn't they find decent announcers? I know there aren't many, but still...
  8. I'm with you. Where did you hear this info about the Barry Sanders chat? Is there a link by chance? I'm in a 12 team keeper league and am very close to competing. I just need a second RB. The owner with Tiki is 0-4 and is giving up on the season. I want him to realize the value of Tiki is this year only. This encourages him to get something for him today and also to lower his expectations of what I would pay. I have Edge as my only starting RB, with D. Williams, Norwood, and Benson as future potentials. I just need something for this year to get me through. My WR corp is very strong with Harrison, Holt & Houshmandzadeh. Any substantive information (i.e., proof) that I can send my fellow partner's way would be a great help!
  9. has anyone heard recently about Tiki and whether he is going to make the shift to the booth next year? I have a possible trade lined up in a keeper league and am trying to assess his value. Is it for this year only or for next year as well. Any recent news would be greatly appreciated!
