Bill Swerski
denny green keeps saying "i see edge getting 1500-1600 yards this year" Given that Denny's entire team could barely produce 1,100 TOTAL yards of rushing last season, I'd say that he's full of $hit. pygmypony
edge will be fine. the cards just beefed up their oline with the pats right tackle from the end of last season. also, despite what happened last season, denny green has had running teams in the past (see the 99/00 vikes & 04 cards). each of those teams ran the ball over 400 times each season (an average of 438). assume edge gets 74% of those carries (his average over the last three seasons at indy). that comes out to about 313 carries - still below his workhorse 360 last year, but not bad. at 4.2 ypc - edge's career avg, that's about 1300 yards. add to that another 50 or so catches for 400 yards, and another 10 TDs (air/ground) - all based upon his career averages, and you're looking at a top 5 RB easy. i just don't see his production dropping off that drastically in AZ. denny green's had two years to build that team up, they have a new stadium, they have the wideouts, leinart in the wings. just so much optimism... Bill Swerski
edge will be fine. the cards just beefed up their oline with the pats right tackle from the end of last season. also, despite what happened last season, denny green has had running teams in the past (see the 99/00 vikes & 04 cards). each of those teams ran the ball over 400 times each season (an average of 438). assume edge gets 74% of those carries (his average over the last three seasons at indy). that comes out to about 313 carries - still below his workhorse 360 last year, but not bad. at 4.2 ypc - edge's career avg, that's about 1300 yards. ARI's ypc was over a full point below that last season. And I don't see how one mediocre offensive lineman is going to bump it up anywhere near 4.0. That line was an absolute joke last season and if they're not SIGNIFICANTLY improved this year, Edge is also going to lose receptions because he's going to have to stay in to pass-block. add to that another 50 or so catches for 400 yards, and another 10 TDs (air/ground) - all based upon his career averages, and you're looking at a top 5 RB easy. i just don't see his production dropping off that drastically in AZ. denny green's had two years to build that team up, they have a new stadium, they have the wideouts, leinart in the wings. just so much optimism... Neither the new stadium nor Leinart will help Edge this season. And neither will Warner's glass jaw. The Cardinals are still at least another year away from putting together a good running game and I see Edge looking a lot more like the 2004 incarnation of Thomas Jones than the Indy-era Edge this season.
