Total dumbass home video question

My GF wants to make a home movie (not that kind). It is actually a (very) amateur cooking video that she wants to send to her friends in Germany that can't cook, just for fun.

It will probably be edited down to maybe 20 minutes from a total of about 60 minutes worth of material. The camera will not be running continuously during the hour, rather it will probably be for 5 minutes at a time. Say doing the mis-en-place. Stop. Then doing the sauteeing. Stop. etc.

Because it will be filmed in little 3-5 minute blocks, it seems to me that we could use a digital camera with the mpeg function (which we have). Or should we go with a digital camcorder (we'd have to buy)? She wants to be able to transfer it to a CD/DVD if that's a consideration. Of course, this does not have to be high quality...it's just for chits and giggles.

Thanks in advance.
