Coming Into the Home Stretch and Things Seem to Look Good

NFXF Urgent Action Alert: Please Contact Your Members of Congress TODAY and Ask Them To Vote YES To Pass the Omnibus Spending bill

December 18, 2007

From: NFXF Washington Team

To: All NFXF Advocates

Dear NFXF Advocates:

Last night the House voted to pass the OMNIBUS spending bill that includes the Labor, Health and Human Services FY08 Appropriations bill. We had fantastic Fragile X results: despite cuts to many programs, $1,860,000 was included for the CDC Fragile X Public Health Initiative - more than DOUBLE the current funding level of the program and more than $900,000 above the level included by the House of Representatives! In addition almost all of the directive language we requested to increase research funding and advance translational research and drug trials at the NIH was also included in the bill.

In the face of so many other cuts there is only one conclusion to reach. The only reason FX was increased when others were cut is that members of Congress heard your voices and responded!

But it's not a done deal yet. The bill will likely be amended by the Senate as early as today and then will be sent back to the House for final passage. Please take just a few minutes to contact your Members of Congress TODAY and urge them to vote in favor of the bill. The Fragile X funding in this bill would not be possible without all the hard work that you, our advocates, put into reaching out to your Members of Congress over the last year. Help us to maintain that funding today by encouraging your Members to vote in favor of the bill.

We are at a critical point in the appropriations process, and just a few minutes of your time will make a big difference. Thank you again for all your advocacy efforts. Your generous donations of your time, energy, dedication and resources are key to our success.
