SheikYerbuti
Fellow New Jersey-ans, I'm working on our taxes, and TurboTax asks me if I got a 1099 for any state tax refunds. We got a refund on our real estate taxes last year (this was part of the deal when Corzine upped the sales tax). Will we have to report this? Will we be getting a 1099 about it? Will we be getting a 1099 about it? property taxes aren't "state" taxes; they're generally county taxes. So the technical answer to your question is "no." But if you took those property taxes, which were refunded, as an itemized deduction last year on your 1040 then you might have to correct that. Actually, the question asked by Turbotax was about "state or local" refunds. I'm guessing I won't get a 1099 about it, but I'd hate to file and then get one in the mail saying I was supposed to include it on my return.
