Ursa Majoris
I have a bunch of Hi-8 video tapes from an older camcorder that I'd like to put on DVD. I intend to do this myself using my PC. Anyone recommend a video capture card that I can use to receive the analog input and create a digital file? Not looking to do any editing at all, just dump the entire tape content to DVD one by one. TIA.
Azazello1313
just go to best buy/office max/whatever and buy a dazzle, it will come with the pinnacle studios software which is pretty good.
AtomicCEO
Hi-8 tapes have a tendency to stretch out and cause problems with video tracking, which can lead to dropouts during digitization. I usually transfer them to a DV tape before dumping them into a computer, which seems to correct the problem... but maybe the analog to digital conversion in capture cards has gotten better since the last time I tried them. My recommended course of action is to dump from the Hi-8 camera to a DV camera, and then use firewire to input them to the computer... but you may not have all that gear.
