montster
when we lived in san diego we rented a condo in this condo complex. everyone had two-car garages, but they were small, so a lot of people parked in spaces that were scattered around the complex. in our division, the spaces were marked "resident" or "guest." you had to have a permit for both -- if someone visited you, you had to buy a guest permit for them to display on their dash, or they'd get towed. one night, all the spaces in our complex were full, so i parked in a stall that wasn't marked, about 100 feet from our condo. the next day, my car was gone. i called the tow company -- yup, it was towed. so i called the main office at the condo complex -- turns out i parked in the "Verandas" complex, but my parking permit was for "Terraces," which was our complex. the person at the office said there's a white line on the ground demarking the boundary (which you're just supposed to know; there was nothing saying what the line was for), and that there are signs. these signs were tiny and were placed in spots to make it ambiguous as to which spots belonged to which complex. i paid the $230 to get my car out and vowed to fight it, but we moved and i never got around to doing it. i talked to another neighbor who parked his car in the guest spot and put the guest parking pass on his dash -- they towed him because he had a resident sticker, too, and residents aren't allowed to park in guest spots, even with a guest pass. the whole thing is a racket. the condo complex i'm sure gets money for using an exclusive towing company, and the towers rake it in because of condo complexes that go overboard with arbitrary, pointless parking rules.
