fingfootball
not at all. there a many responsible, smart parents out there. Im not saying that there is not responsible or smart parents out there. But there is no test in the world that prepares you for being up all night with a sick kid, or a massive exploding diaper, or taking your kid to the emergency room for stitches. I was 35 years old when we started having kids, and I dont think there was a book out there that sufficantly prepared me for the emotional and physical overload that being a parent demands. BTW I wont say that I dont love all of it at the end of the day. Im a stay at home dad and it is most rewarding to see your kids figure out something on there own or find something that is absolutely ordinary to you but is like discovering a new world to them. TDFFFreak
I've always said there should be some sort of license given out for people to have children (and how many) based on a parenting test, financial stability, and general mental health of the individuals. Somehow I don't think that would go over too well... The parenting test should be the biggest indicator of the three. SheikYerbuti
The Sheikette and I were waiting on line to check out at the grocery store the other day. The woman in front of us had (I'm guessing on ages) a one year old in the baby seat on the cart, and 3 others all under the age of 4 dancing around her, pulling on her clothes, running around. She was loading up the belt with Ramen noodles and boxed mac and cheese and fumbling around in her purse to get out her WIC checks, all while screaming at the kids to "get over here and shut up". Oh, and she was pregnant. I turned to the Sheikette and said "Man, I love our life".

McBoog
Is it time that society reassess the importance of having children in the modern world? I understand the whole bit about purpose of species and all that. I understand that it is, technically, the natural progression of life to find a mate and procreate. However, we've done a damned fine job of mitigating the natural progression of so many things that we've also sort of done away with the importance of children as well. From the stand point of furthering the species, in fact, one could make a fine argument that, in general, an individual's choice to not have kids may being doing the species more good than having them. After all, considering population is on the rise, the last thing in the world we are at risk of is people not making enough babies. On the other hand, resources are becoming more and more scarce so it wouldn't hurt to have a few less mouths to feed in general.... Sort of sounds like San Angeles to me. Have a "Joy-Joy day!... Be well John Spartan!
Jimmy Neutron
Despite the millions of loser parents popping out kids - I think we still need 'em all. Population growth is slowing here and even negative in Europe. Somebody's got to take care of a hugh aging population that is supposed to live up to a decade older than those dying today.
