Wall mounting your TV

Been researching purchasing a new TV and I'm getting into a debate about where I would locate it. My options are somewhat limited by the room's configuration. The room is for all intents rectangular with one side (we'll call it the back of the room) being completely open. The front wall of the room has a fireplace, and the right wall of the room is nearly 100% consumed with windows.

So, my options are to 1) mount it above the fireplace 2) stage it on the left wall which is directly across from windows 3) stage it on the wall with windows (this would be a last resort option)

My question is for those of you that have your main viewing TV mounted above a fireplace, how do you like it? I've heard complaints about having to look upward at the TV, have you experienced issues with neck/eye fatigue? I know there are mounts that tilt slightly downward, if you have one do you notice any benefit from it?

Of course I would be open to other staging/mounting suggestions as well if you may have one.

Personally, I like the TV to be at eye level when sitting on the sofa best.

You can't put it in a corner to the side of the fireplace?

I could, and have thought about it, but for two reasons leaned towards the wall mounting.

1) Ideally I would use the corner on right side of the room (wall with windows) to avoid glare issues, problem here is that the wall across from the windows is of two different depths (for lack of better wording) which kind of creates some issues putting a couch along that wall.

2) If it put it on the opposite side where the windows aren't, we run into glare issues. I could opt for room darkening blinds, if we went that way.

I hung mine kinda high and have to look up at it. It only has the up and down tilt and I nor the wife have ever had any complaints about it. Its not as high as above the fireplace, but to me this sounds like your best option IMO. Its really not that big a deal looking up at it, and another thing to consder is how far you will be sitting away from it, mines no more than 10 feet and no discomfort issues, but going higher with it at that range might change my opinion. I'd say arrange everything and sit there for 20 mins staring at that height and see what comes of that.

I've seen them mounted over the fireplace before and, while the look good, it was a PITA when sitting on the couch. It's kind of like sitting in the front row of a movie theater.

I would put the TV where you want it and deal with the glare after. Depending on the tv you get, LCDs don't have a lot of glare. Also, you could get solar screens which should cut back on a lot of it.

if above a fireplace, i think you have to take the temp of the air when the fire is roaring before you install. if too hot, not a good place. some tv's dont like too much heat.

I doubt we intend on using the fireplace too often, but this is a good point I hadn't thought of. Would also think I'd need to consider that when using either corner next to the fireplace.

Likely will get a plasma, do they also not have much glare issue?

It's usually worse than an LCD from what I've seen. I wouldn't be too concerned with it. To me, it's a lot easier to shade the windows than to have a tv in a place that doesn't suit your eye.
