jelap1
Anyone else not sold on bringing Maddux in? I mean, I know the guy is a future HOF'er, and I'm not taking anything away from him. He's a great pitcher. But, the guys been pitching for 18 yrs. And he wants some where between 10 - 14 mil. Is he really worth it? Can he still win 15+ games? Cubs are already at 89mil, and I just can't see spending that much on someone who's on the down slope. I'd like to see that money go to some more young talent. About the only thing I think Maddux can provide, is mentoring the younger guys, and teaching them not to think when they pitch. But again, is that worth 10 - 14 mil?
toofer
If they don't get him thats OK with me. He might actually require 2 roster spots because he can't go past the 6th inning anymore, so we need to dedicate a long reliever to come in behind him. On the other hand, this could rejuvinate him and he could be a helluva #5. I think Zombrano will be a bust this year, hitters were starting to figure him out late last year. jelap1
Your are absolutely right about the two roster spots. And again, who wants that for 10 - 14 mil? What would be cool is if they brought him in as a middle reliever. But I doubt Maddux will go for that. Plus the Cubs wouldn't be willing to give him as much if he was a middle reliever. But do you really think he has anything left to rejuvenate? I think the well is about to be run dry.
Selly
Why do you think the Braves let him go, Maddux has become a decent 6 inning pitcher. I love the guy buy anytime he has to go through the lineup a 3rd time he gets smacked around. Now if he would've taken 6 - 7 mill per year, I think he'd still be a Brave, but if he thinks he's getting 10-12 mill per, he's been spending too much time in the Mets bullpen with the wacky Josh Gordon.
