Company of Heroes
10 team league, roster size 16. I'm toying with the idea of not drafting a backup QB, especially if I get one of the top 6 or so QB1s. I'm thinking that if I draft a QB in the first 5-8 rounds, I won't draft a backup in the next few rounds, and by the end of the draft the backup QBs taken will likely only be marginally better the what's on the waiver wire, especially considering the size of the league. Obvious exception would be if a quality QB fell far. Use the late rounds to keep loading up on WR & RBs with upside. Thoughts?
electricrelish
Since you're only in a 10 team league, I think that's a pretty good idea. The cons are that you don't have anyone to alternate to in case your stud QB isn't a stud or gets hurt. Remember how slow a start Peyton Manning got off to last year. However, I think with only 10 teams that there should be plenty to choose from on the waiver wire.
Company of Heroes
Thanks, and I hear your point on Peyton Manning, but NSYS theory would suggest you'd only sit him if you thought he might not play... In Rds 10-14 when most of the backup QBs are being selected there are likely still some real value left at RB and WR. Also, if QB1 goes down you can play waiver wire rotisserie with a different name each week. I'd be pretty confident that approach would match the production of a mid to bottom tier QB2.
