Innerweb whooha gave my computer the worst case of kooties.

I blew the hard drive away and re-installed xp.

now my internet and sound card do not work. computer says that I don't have any audio software and its pretty clear to me that I have media player - I don't recall ever installing anything else for sound. any thoughts as to how to fix this? I cannot load drivers because I cannot get on the innerwebs

looks like I am having a problem with my ethernet controller, some PCI device and a SM bus controller

edited to add that I managed to go to the dell website with another PC and get my internet working. hopefully the sound will be right behind.

further edited: whoo hooo!! I did it!!!

Mosdt excellent. You should always have a backup of the necessary drivers, even iff they are old version, just to get the thing up and running. You can get everything up to snuff later. Burn those drivers to a CD already (or find the one that came with your computer).

Since you have a Dell, go to their website and put in your service tag number. I would then download all drivers for your system and put them on a CD as already suggested by Kidcid. Just download them all to a new folder and then copy that folder to a CD and then you will be set if it happens again. You should have all of your original drivers on a restore CD from Dell if you can find that, unless of course you have changed any of your hardware out since you bought the system.
