During my trip to Alaska, we visited a number

of glaciers. The national parks maintain photographs of the history

of the glaciers receding. They state that there was an ice age from

appr. 1300 to 1850 AD. Since that time the glaciers have been

receding and doing so at the same rate. As you walk to the glaciers,

they have signs that memorialize the edge of the glacier for various

years. Additionally, they explain the rate and duration of the

glacial recession can be scientifically determined by the stages of

vegetation in the surrounding areas. The fact is, the glaciers in

Alask have been receeding at the same constant rate since 1850.
