Rather disturbing information starting coming out of the Ukraine on Friday regarding H1N1. The government has shut schools, banned large public gatherings and imposed travel restrictions for three weeks – some of the most drastic measures taken across the globe to contain H1N1– after confirming that a sudden and swift outbreak has claimed at least 50 lives and placed over 2000 in the hospital. Stories are confusing as to the number of cases, hospitalizations and deaths. News reports range wildly from 11 deaths to 100.

KIEV — Ukraine's epidemic of flu and acute respiratory disorders has now affected more than a million people, the country's deputy health minister said on Tuesday.

 

Vasyl Lazoryshynets said the death toll from the epidemic had risen to 174, as President Viktor Yushchenko warned the country must brace itself for a second wave of infections.

 

Nearly 53,000 Ukrainians have now been hospitalised, Lazoryshynets said, but the number in intensive care has fallen by nearly a quarter to around 330.

Some things should not be partisan at all. Pandemics are one of them . . .scary, scary stuff . .
