'canes2004
I have a wireless set up in my house running my pc (Windows 7) my PS3 and 2 iPhones (for downloading files too big for 3G) . Anyway, I am trying to set up my friends computer with iTunes and some other things. Here lies the problem. When I try to connect her machine (HP Windows Vista) to my wireless, it won't let me on the net. On the Network Connection page it shows that I am connected to my local (router) but not to the internet. It recognizes the router and the signal strength (excellent) but the line between my local network and the internet icon has a big red X in it. No internet connection at all. Any ideas/solutions? rocknrobn26
Have you tried to connect via a hard wire? Have you tried re-booting the router? Computers? Have you gone into the routers s/w to make sure you are allowing enough connections? What are your security settings? Did it ever ask for a p/w? 'canes2004
Have you tried to connect via a hard wire? Yep Have you tried re-booting the router? Computers?Yep Have you gone into the routers s/w to make sure you are allowing enough connections?Yep What are your security settings? Did it ever ask for a p/w?It did. SSID and PW. Same as the other devices asked and worked fine. The computer recognizes the router but it only allows local access and no net access. My PS3 and iPhones also asked for both and all work great via the router. Just something about her Vista machine that isn't working right. I brought it over to my neighbors house and it worked fine there. I'm just lost for answers at this point. RR, thanks for the help sir. rocknrobn26
A few more thoughts: Try disabling the security on the router (WPA,WEP, whatever) Try disabling the AV on the laptop. Open your browser. What is the error message? Try to just type a URL. Go to "Safe Mode w/ networking". Now can you get out? I googled your problem, went thru a lot of posts, but didn't find a definitive answer. Try calling or get to the trouble shooting page for the router's manuf. Good Luck.
