Yellow Submarine - my home system is stuck in this mode and cycles down and then back to this. I have rebooted in safe mode and ran repair system etc - the whole works and nothing fixes it. Now I have to take it back in and pay approx 150.00 to get it working. My question os this - isnt this a Vista issue or computer issue if it cant configure its own updates that Im stuck paying for

If you have the Vista O/S install disc, you can use the "Method 1" listed in there. Or did you not get an install disc? If you can get any Windows Vista install disc - which you should have with all of the original stuff you got when your laptop/PC - you should be able to to do this yourself without having to pay.

I would think so. You could try it and look for the Microsoft Recovery Console. I'm completely guessing here... but are you using a Dell? If so, that CD or DVD should have the utilities you'd need, but i think they call it "Dell Recovery Console" or something like that.

May be obvious, but be extremely careful and be sure to use Recovery Console or you could overwrite everything.
