michaelredd9
I think many in the fantasy world were already thinking that Freeman had a good shot to be the starter. But it is nice to hear the coach say it. http://www.espn.com/blog/afcwest/post/_/id/81804/rookie-royce-freeman-could-finally-be-denvers-feature-back-answer Jeff LegwoldESPN Senior Writer Freeman, with his combination of size and speed, made it fairly clear that he’s going to push Devontae Booker to be at the top of the running back depth chart. Asked just before the Broncos finished minicamp if he believed Freeman could put himself in the conversation to be the team’s lead back, Broncos coach Vance Joseph said “absolutely.” Edited June 25, 2018 by michaelredd9
michaelredd9
He has the size to get a heavy workload. And he can move for a big dude. Both his 3-cone drill time and his shuttle drill time were 3rd best among running backs. In both events, he was bested by two small guys, Chase Edmonds and Justin Jackson. michaelredd9
It sounds like Royce needs to work on his receiving and pass blocking but that he has natural skills at both. It might make sense for Devontae Booker to be the 3rd down back since he is a decent pass blocker and a decent receiver. Not playing 3rd downs isn't a big deal. Being a "3-down back" is overrated because they get few touches on 3rd downs. Running backs getting most of their receptions on 3rd down hasn't been true in the NFL in a very long time. Running backs get the most receptions on first down, second most on second down, and far fewer on 3rd down.
