I'm tired of rewarding the team that starts slow with all the cool breakout picks of the first 5 weeks and would like to propose a blind bid format. Can any of you who use it hook me up with details? Also is this sort of thing supported or automated on certain websites? Does your auction only handle the main waiver period and after that it's a free for all for minimum bid? Busby Posted June 13, 2008 Share Posted June 13, 2008 I am a co- commissioner in a league and this is how we handle it. • We have a 100 dollar salary cap set for the entire year and all teams must be at or below the cap. • We open up the bid process on Tuesday night from 8pm to 11pm. • The owners that want to make a bid on an available player must send an email to each commissioner. In the event that their email is down or they are away from their email they would place a phone call to one of the commissioner outlining their bid for a player. • Any bids received outside the designated time window are invalid. • The Commissioners will assign/award players based upon the highest bid and update the league web site/team rosters and notify the Winning & Losing Owners by 7pm on Wednesday. • In case of a tie bid the player goes to the team with the poorest record, if still tied the team with the fewest points, still tied then it goes to a coin-toss. • The Commissioners must submit their bids to each other, via email or voice mail no later than 8:00PM Tuesday. This means they will have NO knowledge of anyone else's bids when they make theirs. • When a bid is submitted you MUST indicate at least 1 player per bid that will be cut to make roster space if your bid wins. If you fail to designate a player to be cut the bid is invalid. • Teams with winning bid on a player must keep that player on their roster thru a minimum of one NFL week. • Players dropped on Tuesday night are eligible to be picked up when the free agent window opens on Wednesday at 8pm. However, their salary will remain in effect for 1 NFL week. After that their salary will be 1 million. • Players cut from a fantasy roster are IMMEDIATELY eligible to be picked up (except during GAME TIME when rosters are frozen). • Free agent window opens Wednesday at 8pm and ends 5 minutes before the first game of the week. Each team can go in and pick up any available player. The drawback to the Tuesday night bid process is that it is manual. j2v Posted June 13, 2008 Share Posted June 13, 2008 You should be able to find a league manager that automatically handles the bidding system as well. I know MFL does it, I know F**ball does it, I don't know if SportsLine does it but I would assume they do. It's a far better way to distribute free agents than a waiver wire or first come, first serve. It's a little bit of work to do manually, but if you run your league most places on the web, they should be able to handle it. Buzz's post pretty much laid out the basics; don't know that I'd need to add anything other than once your FAAB (Free Agent Acquisition Budget) is gone, it's gone. You can trade players for more FAAB dollars, or you could institute safeguards to protect league members from themselves (can't be below $10 before Thanksgiving, for example). As for system, I've done blind bids ala WCOFF and what busby listed other than any dropped player is not available to be picked up until they have gone through a blind bidding period. This helps prevent collusion and player dumping. I've also done an open bidding system in CORE on the message boards here. Different strategy for sure in that you know exactly who s being bid on. In this league, we have a set salary cap, so each team has a different amount of cap room available to bid with, so there is a lot of strategy in bid amounts, etc. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
