Bill Swerski
If they can work out a trade, it's then up to another team to sign him to a long term deal. The receiving team wouldn't have to stick with the one year franchise number. I'm no CBA expert, but I don't believe that the receiving team in the trade could just void the one-year, $15 million deal without Cassel's consent. If this is true, it would make Cassel somewhat difficult to trade, as his market value is probably much less than what the franchise-tag would guarantee him. Czarina
I believe that any interested trade would have the opportunity to work out a deal with Cassel that would be long term. Otherwise there really wouldn't be any point to franchising him at all, unless they meant to keep him on the roster.
