ROYALWITCHEESE
With a new (downfield) QB potentially throwing him the rock, and him finally being healthy, what is his outlook for 2009? Positives: Tall (6'4) with good speed and athleticism. The build and talent of a play-maker. Has shown flashes before last season's injury, now claims to be on track for 100%. Positive early reviews. The only player on the roster who fits the red zone receiver mold. Entering his 3rd year. Favre? Rosenfels? Negatives: Run-heavy team. Threat of Percy Harvin as a #2 WR. Berrian is the clear #1. Childress is the coach. What are the chances they pass enough to give him value, even if he starts? Jackson? Still very Green (22 years old). Avernus
I've been watching him since day one...along with Ted Ginn jr..... the QB position is looking at least...a little bit better right now which can't hurt....
Savage Beatings
The only knock against Rice so far has been his ability to stay on the field. He has shown pretty consistent development, so if he can stay healthy he will be given every opportunity to shine this season. So far, in OTA's he has looked very good according to the local beat writers. How that translates onto the field when it counts remains to be seen. He's got a lot to prove still, especially with Harvin on the squad now. Although nobody should expect Harvin to do much of anything this season (unless he has an unbelieveable TC). I don't think there is any immediate threat to Rice's #2 role this year. For 2009 you should see: WR1 - Berrian WR2 - Rice WR3 - Mix of Harvin and Wade For 2010 who knows, maybe: WR1 - Rice WR2 - Harvin WR3 - Berrian If Rice really shows he can stay healthy and keeps on getting better, it wouldn't surprise me if he ends up with better production than Berrian this year. Just too early to tell though, especially given the current flux at QB. We don't know what the chemistry will be yet between the QB and any of these WRs. But I still really like Rice's upside this season.
