capostatus
i commish a money league and have a team in the playoffs that hasnt paid the league fee. they are currently 3rd place and have been active all season making moves and posting messages. i gave them plenty of time and warning to pay up and stated that no team who hasnt paid the league fee would be able to participate in the playoffs. it seems they have no intention of paying and everyone else is paid. is it fair for me to take this team out of the playoffs? only 1st 2nd and 3rd place get prize money so they are not guaranteed anything by just making the playoffs. gilthorp
is it in the rules? If it is, he can't play. Period.

NO PAY NO PLAY. IF IT'S A RULE THEN YOU HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO NOT ALLOW THEM IN THE PLAYOFF'S. RULES ARE THERE FOR A REASON AND IF YOU ALLOW THEM IN AND THEY WIN IT ALL HOW ARE YOU GOING TO TELL THE OTHER OWNERS THAT IT WAS OK FOR THEM TO BREAK THE RULES. TAKE THIS TO ALL THE OWNERS AND MAKE SURE THAT THEY HAVE YOUR BACK ON THIS BEFORE TELLING THEM TO HIT THE BRICKS IT MAY COST YOU A TEAM FOR NEXT YEAR. kpholmes
He's DQed from playoffs, adjust the seeding accordingly to get the next best team in. As a commissioner in one league, and a treasurer in another I can tell you first hand it's tough when friends and fellow owners are having a hard time getting the money together. As understanding and empathetic as you want to be to them, you need to be fair to the other owners and put your foot down early man. You can't let it escalate to a situation like this. We had a long time Huddler in one of our leagues, and after a month or so of the treasurer and I trying to cover for him and get him some more time, we eventually had to tell him it was time to part ways, because we needed to be fair to the other 10 owners. It's not easy to call someone up whose been in a league with you several years and tell them "Hey, I know financially you're in a bad spot right now, and I'm really sorry for you and your family, but unfortunately if you can't get the money together, we have to find someone who can." ...unfortunately as the Commish, that's your responsibility. The blame of this situation lies solely on you. Deal with it, clean it up, learn from it and don't let it happen again next year. electricrelish
Last season, I had a league that I commissioned that was put together at the last minute. It was a renewal of an old work league with new replacements since the office we all worked at had closed down. The guy who won the previous year asked me to get it together again, and he would also help find new owners. He never paid and every single person he got to join the league also welched on their entry fee. I'm sure he was thinking he would win again, but he didn't make the playoffs. I like the guy too, but I would never allow him to play in another league. Not only can this guy not make the playoffs, he should never ever be allowed to be in your league again. Inexcusable behavior. I ended up covering some of the missing entry fees (not all), but some. I e-mailed the whole league and let everyone know who had paid and not paid several times throughout the season. The other owners were understanding about the prize money decreasing in size, but it was a failing on my part as commissioner. I should have locked out the teams that had not paid by week 5. Hindsight is 20/20, but like me, you shouldn't have allowed this to go on all season. You should let everyone know the deal. I doubt anyone will object, but even if they do, you will be doing the right thing. It's too late for that owner to come up with the money now. It wouldn't be fair to the other owners. The Mucca
Why did it come to this in the first place? The deadline for entry fees should always be well before the draft. No pay-- no draft. Find another owner. No way should this guy be allowed in the playoffs, or back next year.
