Leon Washington in camp

Seahawks camp started today, and Leon Washington was supposedly in full pads. Not sure yet if he was limited in any way, but this was my #1 camp question. I think Washington is a 2-game difference maker for any team he plays for when healthy. This is certainly ahead of schedule. The Seahawks perhaps needed a playmaker more than any other team. If he is healthy, there is a potential for a pretty big season here, at least with quite a few touches. Justin Forsett instantly becomes obsolete. Washington is what Forsett would be if he had any speed. It has been nothing but bad news for the Seahawks for so long now, I almost forgot what it feels like to be genuinely excited.

I'm a Hawks fan too and I'm with you. Washington has shown that he has the ability to be a dynamic playmaker in this league. If he gets the chance to be a #1 back, man I hope he blows up. Forsett is being highly touted around here, and he did have some nice games last season. I think it could be a solid RBBC with the two of them so I don't agree with you on Justin becoming obsolete. Carroll has plans for both guys, especially Forsett as of right now. Maybe we could have Lightning and Lightning instead of Thunder and Lightning. Either way, we need playmakers and we need to get the draft picks in camp ASAP. Hawks could surprise this year.

You're probably right. With limited options in the backfield, obsolete is probably too strong of a term regarding Forsett. I would figure Washington gets most of the 3rd down stuff and Jones would get most of the short yardage stuff. My thinking was that Washington and Forsett would battle it out for the bulk of the 1st down carries, and I thought Washington would end up with the lion's share. I'm hopeful that Washington gets about 15-20 touches per week, with Jones and Forsett both closer to 10.

Steelers and Sehawks? How does that work exactly?

Yeah I get a lot of crap for that... I'm from Seattle and love the Hawks but my Dad is from Pittsburgh so I was raised a Steeler fan. I just changed that on my profile. Like both teams the same - too bad I can only pick one!

Man I hate Julius Jones. Wish he was outta here. Do you have any thoughts on Ganther? Is he factored into this at all? Or is it just Pete trying to make the best of competition for jobs (which I'm actually a big fan of)?

I was at Seahawk TC yesterday for their AM practice and yes, Leon was in full pads. He was fielding punts and running up field for 15-20 yards. He did make some cuts but you could tell he was a little tentative. He appears to be about 80% right now. In the running scrimmage Forsett and Jones shared most of the carries and Forsett was clearly the better runner with more burst. I see Forsett getting between 13-18 carries with Jones and Washington sharing another 10-15. What's going to be interesting to see is if Forsett gets the bulk of the plays on 3rd down over Washington.

BTW, Mike Williams looked great and could surprise coming back to play for his old college coach. And Golden Tate could be a "special" player. He made a fantastic catch over Trufant. I don't think I've ever seen a rookie WR with the ability to go get the ball at it's highest point like he can.

Great news there professor. Also really nice to wake up and see we signed Earl Thomas. I'm super stoked to watch him in his career as a Seahawk. It sounds like he has tremendous ball hawking instincts. We need playmakers on BOTH sides of the ball. I need to get down there to check out a practice or two.

Excited to hear that as well about Thomas. We need improvement in that area and from what I've seen in Thomas he should step right in and help, immediately. Going to TC is a great experience. Carrol is so involved in practice, running with the players, throwing passes during defensive drills and engaging the fans. He's big on creating competition at every level and the players seem to be responding to his style. We need to keep Matt healthy and have our defense overachieve. IMO, they have a pretty "cake" schedule, I'm hopeful of a 9-7 record. San Francisco is the team to beat this year.
