Negative yardage plays

Working on offensive line rankings, and ended up with some extra stats in the process. Here are the RBs with at least 100 rushes and how often they failed to reach the line of scrimmage. Some surprises to me to be sure. There are a lot of reasons for a negative yardage play and most don't have to do with the rusher who cannot even reach the line of scrimmage before getting tackled. But kinda interesting all the same.

I think Barry Sanders is the all time leader for getting tackled behind the line of scrimmage.  So yes definitely more at play but it is interesting.  The one that surprised me was Montgomery.  I thought the Bears OL was hurting him and he's a shifty guy not a downhill runner, and had a subpar season, so I would have expected a higher rate for him.  Maybe he should jump around a little more and pick his spots.  Can't say since I didn't watch him much.  I know that a lot of backs, they want the opposite.  I think that was one of the things that turned it around for Henry is to hit the hole hard and not jump around in the first few yards where he lost momentum.  Leveon has been accused of this too but despite poor OL play his number is not high either.

Another interesting stat this reminded me of, Ekeler had something like 980 yds receiving and 940 YAC so he got all those yards essentially from the LOS, about 10 yds per reception, pretty impressive to get 10 yds/reception when you are starting from the LOS
