fantasyfanatic
I just read he renegotiated his contract. Does this mean anything? I also heard Fox has declared him the starter.
WaterMan
Sep 6 Pat Yasinskas, of the Charlotte Observer, reports the Carolina Panthers have restructured the contract of RB Stephen Davis (knee), protecting the club against the salary cap hit they would face if Davis landed on the injured reserve list this season. The new deal includes a $1.25 million split salary that would kick in only if Davis goes on injured reserve this season. If that occurs, his salary-cap hit would be prorated off the $1.25 million salary. If Davis remains healthy, he is to collect $2.2 million in base salary. That's $300,000 less than he was scheduled to make before the contract restructuring. The new contract also includes a provision from the old one, where he can earn up to an extra $3.75 million by meeting statistical incentives. Davis' salary-cap figure has been reduced from $3.1 million to $2.9 million this year. Sep 6 Despite missing most of training camp while recovering from mircrofracture surgery on his right knee, Davis is expected to go into the 2005 campaign as the Panthers' starting tailback. The veteran returned to action in Thursday's preseason finale against the Steelers, picking up 17 yards on five carries. Advice: If no problems are reported over the next week, Davis will top the Panthers' depth chart, following by DeShaun Foster and Nick Goings.
