Seizing on the latest discharge, involving three specialists, House members wrote the House Armed Services Committee chairman Wednesday that the continued loss of such "capable, highly skilled Arabic linguists continues to compromise our national security during time of war." Former Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Stephen Benjamin said his supervisor tried to keep him on the job and urged him to sign a statement saying he was not gay. Benjamin said his lawyer advised against signing because the statement could be used against him later if other evidence surfaced. Honestly. What the f is going on here? Dude was basically asked to do something that might get him in serious trouble so he could continue to protect his country. I thought only Jack Bauer had to make that call? But having 58 kicked out because someone asked or told seems to be a pretty high number! Maybe that Allah and the 40 virgins promise is just a good cover for what they really believe! The military is simply following the law Uhm, just curious, who made this law? You're mad cause someone followed the law? ...ousting service members who make it publicly manifest that they are gay. Indeed, the sailor that is the focus of the anecdotal hook that anchors this story was begged to sign something stating that he was not gay so that he could stay in. (The law has a bizarre provision that allows people who have been found to engage in homosexual acts to say it was an aberration and that they won’t do it again.)
