My advice would be to keep an illuminated electronic push button safe near your bed. Keep the gun loaded in the safe, with a shell in the chamber and on safe.

I agree with the push button safe part , I can get in mine barely even looking at the keypad now. I'm not a big fan of keeping a round in the tube though, call me Mr. safety but it only takes a split second to chamber one.

An empty tube certainly has safety merit, but so does an extra available round. :D

If you have anymore questions about shotguns HUgh...call me. I have several and shoot competitively. Everything I have read here is accurate though.
