abishagenaden
Mainly due to injuries, and in some cases due to incompetence, several players who were being drafted somewhere in the first 12 rounds or so are now being, or soon will be, considered drop-fodder. How long is too long to hold on to a player hoping for results, whilst at the same time taking up valuable roster space? Below is my list, feel free to discuss, disagree or add to it. 1) Vernon Davis Expectations were high pre-season for the 'Beast', but so far he's only had 1 great half to show for it. Now, he's down and out with a sprain, and to make things better/worse, Dilfer's now at the helm. How many more weeks will he be out for? Will he produce when he does return? Meanwhile, a few other TEs have emerged as decent plug-and plays. Too many question marks makes Vernon very droppable IMO. 2) Marc Bulger OL is Swiss cheese, ribs are destroyed. And now he's benched for at least a week or so. Whether or not the pain from his ribs are affecting his play we won't know for sure, but it's likely. With only 1 somewhat decent game under his belt so far, it seems the only thing persuading owners hold on to him now are the fact that he's proven he can be an elite fantasy passer. But will he be this year? When he returns. If he returns. 3) Chester Taylor He's back, but his hip might still be a factor and All-Day is the man in Minn. If Childress were a little smarter we wouldn't even need to list him here but he is still getting some carries a game. 4) Reggie Brown 4 very disappointing games. Still considered the #1 WR in Philly, and most owners probably drafted him to fill their #2 or #3 WR spots. But at this point is he even worthy to be a #4 WR? Or a #5, for that matter. 5) DeAngelo Williams Perpetually stuck behind Foster, I think his only real production so far has been 1 receiving TD in garbage time. I think he's probably the least droppable on this list, more so because he's just 1 injury away from being a starting RB. 6) Devery Henderson Most owners are probably giving Devery 1 last chance (and the Saints as a whole, for that matter) to prove himself with this week's game. I got rid of him a couple of weeks ago. 7) Tony Scheffler Limped into the season with a broken foot/ankle/something, and should have been dropped a long time ago. Anyone still holding on to him are probably still blinded by the 'chemistry' that he shared with Cutler towards the end of last season. 8) Greg Olson Recently recovered from injury, he's still got a somewhat productive Clark in front of him. Sure, the talk is that all the Bears are excited about him and there are plays specially designed for him, but, where are the goods?? 9) Vincent Jackson Plagued by being on the LT-Gates team, an imploding Rivers, and dropping a couple of crucial passes. Sure, he's the #1 WR in SD, but several #2 and some #3 WRs on other teams are out-producing him every week. 10) San Diego Defense Touted by some in the pre-season as potentially being a top 5 defense this year, SD has simply sputtered out. Ursa Majoris
One guy stands out from the rest in that list. Chester Taylor. While you could make a case for dropping the rest to a greater or lesser extent, dropping Taylor would be flat foolish, ISMHO.
