ChuckB
Here's a little info you probably won't ever use: Auguste Comte is credited with being the founder of sociology. It was his idea to apply the scientific method to the social world, known as positivism. He left a small conservative town in France and moved to Paris after the French Revolution. The changes he experienced in his move , combined with those France underwent in the revolution, led Comte to become interested in what holds society together. He wondered what created social order rather than anarchy or chaos, and once society does become set on a particular course, what causes it to change? As Comte considered these questions, he concluded that the right way to answer them was to apply the scientific method to social life. Just as this method had revealed the law of gravity, it would also uncover the laws that underlie society. He called this new science "Sociology".(The study of society)
