At some point, I will get a blu ray player, probably a ps3. So, with that in mind, it probably makes sense to buy only blu ray dvd's. I know that a blu ray player will play regular dvd's, but will a regular player play blu ray discs?

you'll be shocked at how many people don't know that their DVD player won't play HD-DVD or Blu-ray...

a lot of people got burned on amazon who decided to spend 10 bucks more to go for the HD-DVD version of Planet Earth rather than DVD because they thought HD-DVD's would play in a regular DVD player..

the confusion begins and ends with the fact that there are 2 high def formats and people think that Blu-ray is just something else in it's entirety...

it's similar to how a DVD player or a DVD computer drive will read CDs, but if you put a DVD in a CD drive, nada. the drive designed for the older type of disc cannot recognize the newer, denser media format, but the newer drive will be backward compatible.

yeah but i cant get my DVD player to read my floppy discs :D
