TheShiznit
I wonder about this myself. And something like 85-90 percent of our oil comes from Mexico and Canaduh, right? The funny thing is this.....first off, I think Polk meant middleeastern oil....everyone know we are dependent on foreign oil....we don't pull enough out the the ground....the light sweet variety....that can be appropriately refined. Anyway....even if we don't get our oil from the Middle East....we buy it on a market where demand effects supply and then want of supply sets price...to a great degree. Now...there is some manipulation by OPEC and some increases in currency exchange rates. So, even if we do not buy our oil from the Middle East, the fact that they are the major player in world wide oil distribution puts them in the unique position to control supply and effectively drive up the cost...no matter where we are buying the oil from.
