HowboutthemCowboys
I inherited a major girls team this year ( age 9-12). My girl is 9. My league went from 1 team to 2 this year and my team ( 11 girls) consists of girls that have only played minors ( coach pitch). I've scoured the internet and even bought a book about coaching pitching but I'm in trouble. I've coached hardball the last few years but I need help with the windmill. I have a few girls that can throw pretty hard but the control just ain't there. Everything I've read says to teach speed and mechanics and the control will come. We've been practicing for about 3 weeks and it's not coming. Anyone with any experience have anything that may help? I have a little over 2 weeks until we start playing games. frenzal rhomb
Played for fifteen years but never pitched. I could never get the hangof it, even messing around on the side. Good luck though. I think if the girls are athletes, it should come naturally with practice.
General Itals
Everything I've read says to teach speed and mechanics and the control will come. I would think that if you teach the mechanics, i.e. form and proper release point, you would get control. After that, the speed will come. Just an idea. devilwoman
Go out and find a an older pitcher...Lots around in the rec-leagues or Womens Fastpitch leagues. I would doubt if any of the women pitchers would turn you down in showing you some pointers. Or even come and work with your girls. Women who pitch love to show other young women how to pitch. Call the High Schools and ask to talk with their coaches or players. There out there plenty of them and would love to help young girls learn how to pitch.
