rocknrobn26
Now let's talk about how air fares will skyrocket due to the Bankruptcies, mergers, and fuel prices. I used to pay from $200-$250/ NS flight on most airlines........25 years ago to FLA, Vegas, LA,TX, etc.and felt I got a great deal. The prices currently and in the past year are not much more if not the same, but definitely rising. Seems like inflation alone should have fares at least double of what they were back min the 80's. Granted you got a full meal, hardly ever a full plane back then, were allowed 2 bags checked, and security costs $$$! My questions for discussion: How can/did air travel escape inflation? Will it end up that there will be 3-5 airlines controlling it all? (for domestic travel) What will be an acceptable fare increase? Other? Discuss please................. AtomicCEO
How much does it cost to get a family of 4 from CO to CT for Christmas? How much is it worth to me? Would I stay home if it totalled $1500 How much would it cost to get there by car? By train? Those would be the market pressures that affect the price. In the 70s, how many of the planes were brand new? The cost was probably built into the price. How many of those same planes are still taking me to Chicago Midway and back? Plus, if prices simply doubled, you're getting into the range where a small chartered flight of 5-8 people is a cost-effective alternative. Randall
Allow foreign airlines to fly within our country to increase competition.
isleseeya
The biggest factor will be the fuel prices ..they keep going up like this and you will see smaller companies get swallowed up by bigger ones as they will not be able to survive and the prices we thus pay will continue to increase
