Report: Jets ARE indeed interested in Brett

Brett Favre a Jet? Despite repeated denials that they are interested, apparently they are.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen is reporting that the Jets have received permission from the Packers to talk to QB Brett Favre about a possible trade.

The news contradicts comments from several Jets officials over the past few weeks who have repeatedly said they have no interest in the 16 year All-Pro veteran. Just yesterday, Coach Eric Mangini refuted the rumors when asked if they would consider adding another veteran QB to the team.

"I'm really happy with the quarterbacks we have on our roster right now, and the quarterbacks we have in camp," said the Coach.

Mortensen reports that the Jets and Buccaneers have expressed interest in Favre, according to a source inside the Packers organization.

Favre, who retired in April, will likely officially ask for re-instatement into the league this weekend. If he isn't traded or released, he could show up for Packers training camp when it begins on Sunday. The Packers have publicly said they have no intention of releasing Favre but several sources have reported they are exploring possible trade suitors with teams outside of their division.

If Favre is indeed traded for it would almost guarantee Chad Pennington's career with the Jets would be over.

Sources say that the Jets would need to re-structure Favre's contract and get a committment from him to play for more than just one season in order to attempt a trade with Green Bay.
