I thought the slot on my Vostro 1500 was a PCMCIA slot but evidently it is an ExpressCard slot (which I had never heard of)..anyway my question is if there is a discernible difference between ExpressCards, other than price and name....also what would be a good price for one?

oh and I need it to read Compact Flash cards

here are a couple I found:

$40 http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/4627...h.html#features

has Transfer Speeds Up to 20 MB per second

$22 http://www.ubid.com/a_DATAFAB_ExpressCard_...a703334616.html

Extreme high speed: Transfer files up to 33MB/sec

edit: found this one too but the speed is quoted differently $29 http://www.shopdigi.com/product.aspx?pf_id=CFEXP

Transfer Rate:Up to 2.5Gbps (PCIe)

and does anyone know what the PCle means?

if there is a reason to pay more for a card I would like to know why...or if there is another card that someone recommends let's hear it.

The difference I saw in the models you posted are the slot size, 34 or 54 mm. The datafab only works on 54 mm slots.

I wouldn't worry too much about brands, etc. Although I found the name Delkin entertaining, as Belkin is a real company with good products.

The transfer rate is going to be dictated by your computer, not the adapter.

HTH

edit: PCIe is PCI express, which for your application is the 34 mm size
