Computer Type Question

I posted on Craig's List to get some work. I received an email reply and when I attempted to open it I was giving a warning that it could obtain a possible virus. Lets say I open this email from work and it does have a virus, is there any way it could affect my home PC if I log onto yahoo or is it just if I open that email from home. I know this may sound ignorant but I am kinda when it comes to some computer stuff. Thanks

It will affect whatever client PC you happen to be sitting at. If the AV on the machine is up to date, it will probably catch it but do you want to even look at an email from someone stupid or malicious enough to send out infected emails?

I don't know that it is (was) infected for sure and do not plan on opening it but I wanted to know this info. I just got one of those warnings that you get if you do not know the person. In fact I already deleted it.
