Square
Getting kicked in the face while you are on the ground is pretty brutal. That being said, per the sheriff those are civilians that are employed by the bus station. They are ordered to observe, report, and they have no training or weapons. Personally, I would have stopped it once the person was down getting kicked. I had a friend that got jumped at a bar and ended up in a coma because someone kicked him in the skull with a steal toed boot. Sometimes these things go too far. Kid Cid
Ummm, yeah that is f'ed up. However, having work in a private security firm in a past life I can definitely tell you that what the police chief was 100% correct, those guards were under orders not to intervene. That being said, it is a chitty minimum wage paying job, certainly breaking that fight up was worth getting canned over. And make no mistake, they would have been fired. If that's a loved one of mine on the ground the last thing those when I wore my first dressers have to worry about is getting fired. I'd be tracking them down and probly spending the rest of my life in jail after they get what's coming to them for standing by and allowing that to happen. my mistake Kid. I read it as you saying it was'nt worth getting fired over. Again my mistake, I apologize. SheikYerbuti
The interviewer has her head up her a$$. "How will the people of Seattle feel safe???" This was not a random act of violence. This was a group of kids fighting with a girl who they knew by name. If it was a group of gang members beating the crap out of random strangers, then there's a problem. As for the guards, I'm guessing it's the same as it is in a casino. If a security guard lays a finger on you, you can sue the hell out of them AND the casino. Welcome to the age of legal liability. Don't like it, pack heat and draw down. Infinity
It's just ridiculous i think it really goes beyond whatever your job and the rules may be. If someone is in trouble, help them.
Jackass
I'm guessing the security guards are trained not to intervene b/c they're not licensed to carry weapons. If someone pulls out a gun and offs one of them the security company is going to have a serious lawsuit on their hands. These are people making 10 bucks an hour probably, so the security company probably prefers not to put them in a position to make judgment calls on whether or not a situation could escalate to gunfire or someone drawing a knife. Obviously though they're not 'security guards' if they're not securing much, so they should either up their pay and train them to handle situations such as this one, or change their job description to 'mall staff' or something so there's no illusion of them being able to offer protection. There were other people there that also could've stepped in.

If it was a group of gang members beating the crap out of random strangers, then there's a problem. Ah, but what if one of the civilian bystanders jumped in to try and save the girl and the thugs then started kicking the good samaritan in the head which could have easily happened? Then we have a problem. I would have CERTAINLY jumped in to help regardless of if she knew the thugs or not. I simply can't stand by and watch things like this happen. If I end up getting shot by one of the thugs who is toting a gun, then they add either assault with a deadly weapon or even murder to their charges and end up spending the rest of their lives in jail. But the thought of one of them packing wouldn't even phase me. I simply can't stand around and watch this and anyone who does is a coward IMO. But I do understand the guards have their orders. Doesn't mean I have to like it though.Personally, I'd have said "f'k this job, I'm jumping in".
