buddahj
MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- Authorities charged a Middletown woman Thursday in connection with a bag of puppies found abandoned in a duffel bag. Animal Friends Humane Society officials said the duffel bag containing five 6-week-old puppies was zipped closed and left April 28 in an alley on Hill Avenue in Middletown. Animal control officers charged Beth Deaton with five counts each of animal cruelty and abandoning animals. She was taken into police custody, where she remains at the Middletown City Jail until her arraignment Friday morning. Officers said they found a sixth puppy from the litter in Deaton's care and a seventh in the care of Deaton's cousin. Authorities said Deaton also identified the puppies' mother, who was picked up April 23 by animal control officers at Miami Park in Middletown. The dog, called Roseanne, remains available for adoption at the Animal Friends Humane Society. The shepherd mix puppies are healthy and will be available for adoption in the coming weeks, animal control officers said. She probably spit on some babies first.
