atrpunk
^ I've heard the opposite of the above. I think people are under-estimating Tamme.

Turf Smurf
I'm not sure that Tamme is the right pickup. So far this season he has 0 catches while Eldridge has 3 for 23 yards. I know those stats aren't mind-blowing for Eldridge but if Tamme is the next best option wouldn't his stats reflect something? All I'm saying is it's too risky to drop anyone significant and pickup up either of the backup TEs. The crystal ball says ask again Tuesday. I picked him up and stashed him on the bench. Juries out.....we'll see
Turf Smurf
Also, just my two cents, but when people say things like "Manning likes to throw to his tight ends" it always makes me laugh. Manning, like all great QB's, likes to throw to whoever is open. Dallas Clark gets a lot of balls not because there is a T and an E after his name on the roster, he gets them because he has great hands and he gets open. If his replacement can get open and win Manning's trust, he could be valuable. But if you think Manning will force the ball to him just because he's running Clark's regular routes, I think that's nuts. Is it just me? +1 This. Turf Smurf
TE Brody Eldridge, a rookie fifth-round pick with three career receptions, steps into a vital role with Dallas Clark out for the season. Eldridge was drafted as a blocking specialist who wasn't used much as a receiver in the Sooners' offense, catching just 13 passes during his career. He started at center against BYU last year before moving back to tight end for four games and then was at left guard for four games before his season ended due to an AC sprain. He was the No. 17-rated tight end prospect last year, according to NFLDraftScout.com ratings. However, he impressed the coaching staff with his receiving skills during offseason workouts, displaying the athleticism to get downfield quickly at 6-feet-5 and 265 pounds, and has been developing into a better receiver than initially thought. He caught four passes for 44 yards in the first two preseason games, and has slowly been incorporated into the offense more ever since. "I think he has a chance to be a good, solid football player," coach Jim Caldwell said after the second game of the season, when Eldridge saw his first extensive action. "He is tough. He's developing into a good in-line blocker, but he can also give you something in the pass game, as well. But he's young yet. The jury is still out. ... We'll see how he develops." Third-year veterans Tom Santi and Jacob Tamme are also on the roster, but neither has caught a pass this season. The team also re-signed Gijon Robinson, who was released Sept. 29. He caught nine passes for the team last season, while Tamme contributed three. Robinson and Tamme could be more involved in the passing game, but it has been Eldridge who the Colts have been developing during the first half of the season. (Yahoo! But if you think Manning will force the ball to him just because he's running Clark's regular routes, I think that's nuts. Is it just me? I don't disagree, but I want to throw in a note that there's something to be said about TEs. The position lends itself to creating mismatches, if the player is fast, matching up with a LB. If the player is big, matching up with a CB. Liking to throw to TEs can be equated to liking to throw to tall players against shorter players. Liking to throw to heavy players against lighter players. Liking to throw to faster players against slower players. When we're talking about a TE talent like Clark or Gates, I agree that it's not an appropriate conclusion; also when we're talking about a QB who isn't limited to checking down and looking for shorter routes because of inexperience or a poor OL. But as a generalization, liking to throw to TEs can be a reasonable assessment. However, it's true that Manning does not fit the criteria.
