Riffraff
Without asking RockinRobin what it was like back then... http://now.msn.com/1...cid=vt_fbmsnnow Click to see picture of the exam. If we took this 8th-grade exam from 1912, we'd be screwed Are you smarter than an eighth-grader? To clarify, an eighth-grader from 1912? Kentucky's Bullitt County History Museum now has the chance to pose that question after discovering a 101-year-old exam given to serious old-school students. The quiz required them to stretch far beyond reading, writing and 'rithmetic into spelling, grammar, geography, physiology, civil government and history. Here are a few samples: "Compare arteries and veins as to function. Where is the blood carried to be purified?" "During which wars were the following battles fought: Brandywine, Great Meadows, Lundy's Lane, Antietam, Buena Vista?" And "Differentiate between copyright and patent rights." Huh? "For us, this is just fascinating," museum rep David Lee Strange told ABC News. "It puts us in the mindset of 1912." We love you, multiple choice. Oops, wrote 1812 in the thread title. Should have been 1912. I fail. Edited August 13, 2013 by Riffraff
moneymakers
doesn't seem that difficult Lungs help in the purification of blood. Arteries carry pure oxygenated blood from the heart to other parts of the body. Veins carry impure venous blood back from other parts of the body to the right side of the heart. This impure blood goes to the lungs for purification. 8th grade math today is equivalent to college algebra of the 1980s
NetnautX
I would have said the liver but the answer is lungs, liver, and kidneys.
Joessfl
Some kids in 1912 probably just cheated by looking up answers on the internet using their cellphones. ETA --- Forget those questions. I was amazed at some of the words they were asked to spell. Edited August 14, 2013 by Joessfl
Riffraff
Gotta love questions like: Name five county officers and the principle duties of each. Pretty sure most 8th graders (or adults) couldn't name their own student body officer positions/duties, let alone their local government's.
