Hipster Doofus
Last night was a great example why TLR is head and shoulders above Dusty Baker as a major league manager. Everyone in the park knew the squeeze was coming yet Baker still pitched to Eckstein (the best bunter the Cardinals have), as opposed to walking him and pitching to recently called up OF John Rodriguez. The Cubs floundered during the first half of the season and blamed all the injuries as a big part. Well, the Cardinals are now without 3 starting everyday players, Sanders...till early Sept, Rolen...probably till Sept if not the rest of the season should his shoulder show no improvement, and Yadier Molina...already out over a week and out another week or two. The difference between the two teams are the bench player and the bullpen. While the Cardinals plug in Mabry, Nunez', Taguchi...etc, the Cubs don't get near the production from their reserves. Another problem the Cubs have is they have no closer. Why they failed to address this problem in the off-season is a mystery to me.
