The Vikes, we're told, have a history of prepping the fan base for the actual pick, especially in years in which the locals are clamoring for someone other than the guy the Vikes have targeted. As we hear it, the fans want Adrian Peterson or Brady Quinn. If Landry is on the board with either or both of them, Landry will be the pick. The only guys who could get the Vikes away from Landry would be quarterback JaMarcus Russell and receiver Calvin Johnson. Both are expected to be long gone by the time the Vikes pick. As to the team's apparent infatuation with Russell, a reader has offered up this gem: "JaMarcus would never get to use that cannon arm in Minnesota. We don't have receivers that can catch, much less go deep for an 84-yard bomb. The longest pass in this offense is three yards shy of the first-down marker." He has also said Landry is the guy...I like the pick as long as they draft at least 2 receivers later in the draft...this team needs some serious depth on offense... I don't think so..from the strib Did they want Louisiana State safety LaRon Landry? Oklahoma running back Adrian Peterson? How about Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn? Ultimately, the Vikings turned down an offer to move into Washington's No. 6 spot and take Landry. They passed on Quinn, who plummeted to the No. 22 overall spot, and celebrated the arrival of Peterson -- one of the draft's top playmakers whose status was impacted by the continuing possibility he will need significant shoulder surgery Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
