Robash
expansion team huh? Keller is the man, gonna miss seeing him in goal for the USMNT. http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2009/03/20/...C-Red-Bulls.php SEATTLE: Colombian forward Fredy Montero scored two goals and set up another as the Seattle Sounders FC made their Major League Soccer debut with a convincing 3-0 win over the New York Red Bulls in the season opener Thursday. Montero, 21, opened the scoring in the 10th minute when he collected a Sebastien Le Toux and drilled a right-footed shot into the lower left corner of the net. Brad Evans scored later in the first half on a spinning left-footed shot that beat New York goalkeeper Danny Cepero as the 32,523 fans at Seattle's Qwest Field went away impressed and satisfied with their team's first result. Montero sealed the win in the 75th minute when he beat New York defender Mike Petke before wrong-footing Cepero for his second goal. For a franchise that has already set new MLS benchmarks for support with a cap on season tickets at 22,000 and the first sports marketing partnership with Microsoft Corp., living up to all the hype surrounding opening night appeared challenging. But Seattle spent most of the night keeping Cepero wondering just where the next rush was coming from, even without former Arsenal star Freddie Ljungberg, who is still recovering from hip surgery. While Montero ran free all night, the Red Bulls looked disjointed and easily flustered, hardly resembling the team that made a shocking run through last year's playoffs and reached the MLS Cup before losing to Columbus. Only twice — both in the second half — did New York find itself with reasonable scoring opportunities, only to be turned away each time by Seattle keeper Kasey Keller. What I did do though was turn on the radio and listen to the call from former Sonics announcer Kevin Calabro. Kind of odd to hear #1, a soccer game on the radio, and #2, his voice smoothly describing the action. Seattle has really responded well to the team, and I look forward to catching several games this summer.
