Sgt. Ryan
Ive explained my reasoning, and I think its a decent signing, but not the greatness pats fans seem to think. The Pats D is no where near the Ravens. Thomas was just another cog for that D. His size allowed him to play DL, and in the 26 defense, he moved inside when he wasnt rushing the passer. In a base 3-4 or 4-3, he would get exposed playing MLB, so he isnt a good fit there. He would be average at best playing DT, and isnt better than Warren or Seymour at DE right now. So his best asset for this team is in a 3-4, coming off the edge, trying to bring a disguised 4th rusher at the QB. But just like in Dallas, when G Ellis went down, Dallas was predictable bringing their best LB pass rusher, D ware, and he wasnt the same player without a compliment on the other side capable of getting to the QB. Thomas will get extra attention where he lines up, in that defense, which is the obvious best way to use his skills. Or Thomas will be in pass coverage on the TE, as the Pats dont have a FS or LB that does that well. Either way, this is a nice start, but no where near enough to fix that D. And as much as the so called facts make the secondary good. When teams run it down your throat, you dont get passed on. Dallas in Campo's 2nd to last yr, had the best pass D in the league, and were at the bottom in run D. Wonder why the Pass D looked so good. hmm.... Sgt. Ryan
BTW, I feel the same about Dallas signing L Davis. Its a nice start, but unless they keep Columbo, its trading tit for tat at twice the salary. Davis had no one around him in Arz, Dallas has a nice LT, C and RT. Davis could improve imo playing inside at either G surrounded by good player, or playing RT, if Rivera is at his best at RG. But if Dallas leaves Davis at RT and Rivera is hurt or sucks next yr, this signing is meaningless.
Bill Swerski
Strong signing for the Pats. So, does this mean that Vrabel will move inside to replace Seau? The (Kyle) Brady signing ain't bad, either. Dude isn't the receiver he used to be, but is still a very good blocker.

You mean the 'so called' facts that show that they were 5th in rushing yards allowed, 12th in passing yards allowed, 6th in time of possession, 2nd in points allowed, and first in pass touchdowns allowed. You don't get to be 6th in TOP and 5th in Rushing defense by having a bad rushing D that people are trying to expose, inflating the numbers for your Pass D. Sometimes I wonder where this stuff cooks up
