Return Of S&B
from www.profootballtalk.com DARIUS VISITING RAIDERS Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that free-agent safety Donovin Darius is expected to visit the Oakland Raiders on Wednesday, and that the Raiders are expected to attempt to sign him. The Bills and Panthers also have expressed interest in the former Jaguar. But if the Raiders get their way, Darius will be wearing the silver and black before too long. Darius is a strong safety, which is the same position that Michael Huff, the No. 7 overall pick in 2006, played last season. One of them would surely move to free safety, and both would be starters. *************************** **IF** the Raiders sign Darius expect Schwiegert to be relegated to the bench this season because Huff was born to play Free Safety (not Strong Safety). Darius is an upgrade over Huff at SS. Huff is an upgrade over Schwiegert at FS Although he racked up some nice tackle numbers the past two years many believe Schweigert is the weak-link in the Secondary. Darius, at 31, would bring some much needed veteran leadership to the very young secondary Oakland has. Washington/Asomugha/Huff/Schweigert/Bing are all 26 or younger. Sure the Raiders secondary was decent last year, but that had more to do with opposing teams not having to throw against the Raiders to win due to their low-scoring offense. As long as Darius can stay healthy, he would be a nice upgrade to a young, continously improving Oakland secondary. And, in my opinion, Huff would realize his full potential at the Free Safety position in his second year alongside the hard-hitting veteran. Return Of S&B
From PFT, 07-10-07 RAIDERS SIGN DARIUS The Oakland Raiders have announced the acquisition of free-agent safety Donovin Darius. A first round pick of the Jaguars in the 1998 draft, Darius was cut on June 14 by the team with which he spent nine seasons. Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that Darius signed a three-year deal worth $7.1 million. "We are extremely excited about adding Donovin to the Raiders," Raiders coach Lane Kiffin said. "He will bring us immediate competition in our secondary. Donovin exemplifies hard work and dedication to the game. Working with Donovin at Jacksonville, I was able to see what a phenomenal competitor he is. He will fit great into our team philosophy." Darius visited the Raiders last month. He likely will play strong safety, allowing the team to move current strong safety Michael Huff to free safety, and current free safety Stuart Schweigert to the bench. ********* Looks like Schweigert will hit the bench and Huff will play Free Safety this year...bad for my Dynasty team (time to get rid of Schweigert) but good move for the Raiders Defense Edited July 10, 2007 by Return Of S&B
Sgt. Ryan
Just think. Oakland could have drafted Matt Leinart last yr, and gave him Calvin Johnson to throw to this yr. Taking Huff was not a smart pick. But it was a typical Raider pick...

But it was a typical Raider pick... But they had Aaron Brooks... they also could have had Cutler. Either would have been good picks.

If the Raiders drafted Leinert they wouldnt be able to pick Calvin this year because if the Leinert was such a great pick they wouldnt be picking at the #1 spot in April 2007 Edited July 11, 2007 by Return Of S&B
