Illinois State Police Sgt. Tim Ellis confirmed that there were hostages in the bank but had no other information. The deputy was shot on a country road about 10 miles from First Mid-Illinois Bank and Trust, where the hostages were being held in the tiny town of Arcola. The community of 2,600 residents, about 150 miles south of Chicago, is home to an Old Order Amish settlement and horse-drawn buggies are a common sight. A Douglas County Sheriff's spokeswoman said Chief Deputy Tommy Martin was shot in the face. She had no information about his condition. wiegie
Yep--I've been there before. Corn and soybeans is about all there is. (well, that and an Amish-farm tourist attraction)
