Keeper Trade Advice

We keep two players - not at the same position.

I have Alexander, Chad Johnson, and Marvin. Other guy has McGahee.

Do I trade Alexander and one of the other two - for - McGahee and a 2nd rounder.

That would get me a younger non-foot injured RB while keeping a stud WR - and getting a draft pick.

Getting the draft pick is nice, but McGahee is moving to a team that has not moved the ball well on the ground lately. So you would in essence be trading a #1 RB - albeit one who has struggled some - for a #2 FF RB and a player who is equivalent to a 4th round pick, AND you're throwing in a top 7 WR to boot.

That's a terrible trade for you. If you really want to move Alexander and a stud WR, you ought to be talking trade with the Gore, Jackson, Johnson, or LT owners and hope one of them doesn't have a second keeper worth a damn. If you can't get a deal done with them, at least drop one of the stud WRs and force someone else to use a draft pick to get them, instead of taking a downgrade at RB to trade away a stud WR.

In one sense, I agree with BB. You can probably do better. I also agree with him that McGahee is not a sure thing this year.

However, if you believe that McGahee is going to be a stud (which is not an outlandish opinion to hold), don't scuttle a trade because of what the other guy is going to get. It's one thing to hold out for something good, it's quite another to refuse to do a trade that will help you out of spite. You're going to lose one of your WR. Why not get something out of it?

My advice is to shop around for a better deal. If there isn't one to be had, make the trade if you think McGahee's future is bright.

Thanks Guys - Keep the opinions coming !!!

I'm in the camp of McGahee will be a much improved player in the new system. Lot's of catches out of the backfield will be a plus. I'm not down on Alexander - just concerned with his foot and the downgraded O-line in Seattle.

I'll keep shopping as someone may need a stud WR - I'd like to get something out of them, without just dropping them back into the pool.
