SEC=UGA
i wonder why the people needed an extreme makeover in the 1st place. was it stupidity or hard times..... Good show. A little of both. They have done a couple in New Orleans (bad times and stupidity). In some cases though it is a hard working family with a child that has a severe physical, mental, or psychological disorder. I have also seen one where a woman had adopted three children and was having a rough time with her job... Different things, but for the most part they are not just helping out some random crack head. TimC
i wonder why the people needed an extreme makeover in the 1st place. was it stupidity or hard times..... The SO likes the show so I've caught it more than once. What irritated me was like when they were in New Orleans. The money they spent for ONE house could've probably built at least 3 smaller ones. If you have the resources and are going to put $200,000 into a neighborhood like that, shouldn't you put it in 3 $70k houses instead of one $200k? This show is more spectacular than that, also it helps suppliers show off their newest products, basically advertisement to rich people on the great new stuff they can purchase for their houses. detlef
Good point. But, since this is charitable work, I worry that this could inhibit others from being so kind in the future... I don't want to see other people penalized because some jack ass decided to "capitalize" on other's kindness. Well, if it was up to me, rather than picking one family and going totally ballistic in making them the coolest house ever, I'd just as soon as spread the love a bit more and hook up more people with just enough. Of course, that doesn't make good TV. None the less, considering that it's sort of whacked out by nature in this respect, it sort of trumps concerns that somebody might squander the good fortune. My guess is that those who participate do so partly to be part of the show. If it was all about the charity, there's always Habitat for Humanity. However, I get your point and agree that they really should have been more careful.
TimC
If you took all the money in the world and equally divided it amongst everyone equally (calm down you little socialist liberal freaks...it's fiction), a year later the same people would be rich and the exact same people would be poor. I agree....but some would switch places from the rich/poor dichotomy.
